Henri Gabriel Ibels : Le Cafe Concert
Henri Gabriel Ibels (French, 1867 - 1936): Le Cafe Concert, 1893. Original lithograph on cream paper. Plate signed lower right. From the edition of 500. From the portfolio Le Caf concert by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Henri-Gabriel Ibels. Published by L'Estampe Originale (H. Marty), Paris. Writing in pencil verso.
Henri Gabriel Ibels was a French illustrator, printmaker, painter and author Ibels' images were powerful and heavily graphic, in keeping with the movement that was a generous admixture of fine art, graphic design and advertising, as seen in the lithographs and posters for theater, cabaret, and book illustration. His graphic style owed much to the art of Honore Daumier, Japanese woodcuts, Paul Gauguin and the Pont-Aven School.
