P. Ambrogiani Painting
- Original oil on canvas painting by French artist Pierre Ambrogiani (1907-1985). Signed "Pietro Ambrogiani" to the lower left on the painting and "P. Ambrogiani" to verso.
Depicting a Impressionist landscape of a village in Burgundy in vibrant colours applied with his recognisable heavy impasto technique, creating a sense of depth through the texture.
Titled "Ete en Borbogne" (Summer in Burgundy) to verso.
Pierre Ambrogiani was a painter, engraver and sculptor born on January 16, 1907 in Ajaccio, France, and died in Allauch on October 23, 1985 at the age of 78.
In 1936, with the help of Louis Aragon and André Malraux, he participated in the creation of the very first House of Culture out of Paris.
His studio was located on Cours d'Estienne-d'Orves, near the Vieux Port. He travelled around the countryside in his car, which served as his studio, painting on location. He set up a studio on Quai Rive-Neuve in Marseille in 1943.
Renowned for his brightly coloured palette, he painted landscapes of the South and still lifes of fish. He also engraved numerous plates to illustrate books.
Forced by illness and infirmity to stop painting in 1973, Pierre Ambrogiani died in 1985 and was buried in the Saint-Pierre cemetery in Marseille. His body was transferred to the Sault cemetery in Vaucluse.
Condition: Damaged - some cracks to the paint layer on the left side with the upper left corner having lifted and a section broken off (4x7cm), revealing the canvas beneath.
Dim: frame 79. 5x60cm / canvas 73x54cm
