Luis Meque Painting
- A painting by world renowned artist Luis Meque, oil on paper. In this piece, like in many others, he paints his daily and nightly childhood in war- born Mozambique, with faceless figures representing humans caught in a motionless state.
There is little concession to modeling, texture or any other device which would seem frivolous. Facial details are often obscured or obliterated. Extremities, sometimes limbs are redundant, and subsequently removed. There is no surplus, no excess, nothing beyond what contributes to the immediate subject at that exact moment in time. At some point the spectator becomes aware that there is far more left unsaid than the details of the subject, and in the end letting the painting say: There is a real world that exists beyond this frame.

Luis Jose Meque Gugumise was born in Province Tete, in 1966, Mozambique, but started his art career in Zimbabwe where he moved when he was 20 years old because of civil war that was brewing in his home country.
Luis Meque had a strong influence on art in Zimbabwe. He moved to Harare in the late 1980s where he lived and worked until he sadly passed away of aids in 1998.

Condition: Very Good, good wood frame with thick protective glass, no damages to the painting, well preserved.
Dim: 114 (L) x140 (H) cm.
