"Heritage & Horizons: An Anniversary Auction" rounds up Romanian masters of different epochs, compiling a selection of works which carry astounding aesthetic and historical value. From Nicolae Tonitza to Cecilia Cutescu-Storck, from Victor Brauner to Vasile Gorduz and Florin Mitroi, the selection traverses different moments in modern and contemporary art history, capturing the shifts that have taken place in artistic approaches towards both the figurative and the nonfigurative. Many aesthetic lineages can be traced between these thematically rich artworks, which together capture the complex intertwinement of cultural movements locally as well as at a European scale. Art takes different roles in these masterpieces, from posing important social questions and representing certain lived realities, to immersing into dreamy spaces of desire and aesthetic freedom.
