A WOODEN YORUBA SHANGO ALTAR FIGURE. NIGERIA
A hand-carved dark wood altar figure from the Yoruba tribe. A stylized female figure is mounted on a long cylindrical handle. She has a broad face with large features and a complex voluminous headpiece that makes the completion of the ceremonial wand like a mallet. Circa early 20th century.
