A JAPANESE NETSUKE OKIMONO OF FUKUROKUJU, 19TH C.

An okimono hand carved figurine features the Fukurokuju, one of the seven gods of fortune. Fukurokuju is depicted as an old man with an elongated head, which is a symbol of wisdom and life experience. In his hands is a scroll and a fan. This implies the consonance of the words "fan" and "good" in Chinese. This fan can be used by God both for the expulsion of evil forces, and sometimes for the resurrection of the dead.
