An antique Russian Orthodox icon of Mother Of God Kazanskaya. The hand-painted icon with egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on the wood panel. Inscribed upper right. Circa: late 19th century. Comes with a covered wooden kiot. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a revered miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Kazan in 1579. One of the most revered icons of the Russian Orthodox Church. Three Kazan icons became the most significant in Russian history: Appeared in Kazan, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.
