LADY ENGRAVING BY LONGARCE AFTER AUGUST HERVIEU
James Barton Longacre, American, 1794 to 1869, engarving on paper, Mrs. E. Spencer, depicting a portrait of a lady, after the original painting by Auguste Hervieu, British, French, 1794 to 1858. Inscribed in the print lower to the center. James Longacre is known for Portrait and coin engraving, medallic art. Auguste Hervieu is known for Portrait painting, illustration Ohio 1830s. Auguste Hervieu was a French portrait and miniature painter and illustrator. He is best known for traveling to America with the author Frances Trollope and her family as tutor to her children, including the future author Anthony Trollope. He collaborated with Frances Trollope for a number of years, drawing the illustrations for many of her most popular books, including Domestic Manners of the Americans 1832.
