JAPANESE EDO WOODBLOCK KABUKI ACTORS BY UTAGAWA KUNISADA
A color woodblock on paper by Utagawa Kunisada, also known as Utagawa Toyokuni III, 1786 to 1865, a Japanese ukiyo-e artist considered the most commercially successful artist of the era. Late Edo era, mid-19th century. The print depicts two kabuki actors as the characters Karigane Bunshichi and Nuretsubame Kosan. Dated 1858. Kabuki is a classical form of Japanese theatre, mixing dramatic performance with traditional dance that originated during the early Edo period. Collectible Asian Oriental Graphic Art, Kabuki Theater.
