A hard to find ancient Chinese pottery figurines of Lokapala, Tang Dynasty, ca. 613-901 A.D. In Buddhism, lokapala refers to the Four Heavenly Kings, and to other protector spirits, whereas the Guardians of the Directions are referred to as the dikpalas. The warriors are depicted standing in a powerful pose and in ornate armor, holding a foot atop a ram.. His well-modelled face has a belligerent expression and his hands are clenched into fists.
