An antique Russian early Soviet childrens book with illustrations, Indian Leader, by Heinrich Sienkiewicz. Translated from Polish by S. Mikhailova Shtern. Illustrations by V. Artemyev. The cover is illustrated by A. Komarov, signed in the plate with initials lower left. Publishing House of G. F. Mirimanov, third edition, 1927. Circulation of 40000 copies. Stamped with a bookplate of Gerzen Institutes Childrens Library, exlibris, and numbered, 3772, inside and on the cover. Henryk Sienkiewicz, also Heinrich Iosifovich Sienkiewicz, 1846 to 1916, a Polish writer, known as the author of historical novels, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1905. Along with Eliza Orzeszko and Bolesław Prus, he belonged to a galaxy of prominent Polish realists of the 19th century.
