LEONID AND RIMMA BRAILOWSKY RUSSIAN OIL PAINTING
Leonid Brailowsky, 1867 to 1937, and Rimma Brailowsky, 1877 to 1958, an oil on canvas painting, Ship Dock In Winter. Signed lower right and left. Housed in an old wooden frame with an attached metal nameplate. Provenance: Shapiro Auctions New York, IMPORTANT FINE ART, 10.15.2022, lot 162. Note: Leonid Brailowsky was a painter, architect, stage designer. Brailowsky studied 1886-94 at the Imperial Academy in St. Petersburg where he won the little gold medal for architectural drawing. In 1895-98 he studied in Rome under Bampani and at the Academy Julian in Paris. He taught 1897-1917 at the Moscow Art school. In 1917 he emigrated to Constantinople and in 1921 to Belgrade and 1925 to Rome. He was accidentally shot in a street fight between Italian Fascists. Rimma Brailowsky was a painter, graphic artist, stage designer. Rimma Brailowsky, born Rimma Schmidt, lived 1899-1917 in Moscow and most probably studied under her future husband, Leonid Brailowsky. She painted, together with her husband the backdrops and costumes for the Belgrade opera in 1921-24. One of a kind artwork. Antique Russian Fine Art, Folk Paintings And Wall Decor Collectibles.
