An Antique 19th Century Chinese Porcelain Plate

An Antique 19th Century Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Plate with Provenance. At the center, there is a Chinese Symbol surrounded by colorful flowers and Chinese Letters in white medallions – one in every cardinal direction. The plate is painted in green, pink and blue enamels on a yellow ground. Underside mark from the Qing Dynasty, 19th Century. Size d: 6 3/4. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
