This combination of auspiciousness covers all aspects of life and is generally known as all-encompassing good fortune manifestations that one can enjoy in life. Underside with red underglaze TONGZHI mark under the base. Ca. Qing Dynasty, 19th. Century. Size d: 4 1/2. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
