Our April auction brings an exceptional selection of antiquities encompassing a wide range of cultures. From the Roman Empire to the ancient Egyptians, Hellenistic, Western Asiatic and ancient China. Each piece has been vetted by a renowned team of experts and auction curators, offering you the opportunity to enhance your collection. Here are some highlights to look forward to; Lot 1 - Rare Egyptian Stone and Wood Canopic Jars. Lot 2 - Egyptian Amarna Period Sandstone Relief Depicting the Pharaoh Worshiping the God Aton. Lot 20B - Attic Red-Figure Kylix Depicting a Departure Scene - TL Tested. Lot 28 - Greek Black Glazed Terracotta Snake. Lot 29 - Stunning Roman Marble Head Depicting Dionysus. Lot 33 - Complete Chalcidian Helmet with Decorated Cheekpieces. Lot 37 - Roman Gold Ring with Agate Intaglio Depicting Perseus. Lot 41 - New Kingdom Egyptian Tall Wooden Ushabti. The array also features remarkable and historically significant provenances, including: Mrs B. Ellison, a member of the Egyptian Exploration Society. The EES was established by Amelia Edwards and Reginald Stuart Poole in 1882 with the primary objective of exploring, surveying, and excavating in Egypt. Axel Guttmann was a well-known private collector of European weapons. His collection began with a Roman Bronze helmet and grew rapidly to over 1,000 pieces. Known for lending his collections for exhibitions and providing accessibility to researchers, Guttmann's collection was auctioned following his passing in 2002 and 2004. HELLENISTIC GOLD PENDANT AND NECKLACE
Ca. BC 400 - 300.
A Hellenistic gold circular pendant and necklace. The pendant has a central oval garnet, with four smaller round garnets (two missing) in hexagonal position in the middle of floral filigree motifs. Four spirals are located at the top and the lower part of the medallion. The necklace is realised of gold and glass beads. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 1445, ANCIENT JEWELRY, Lot. 119. This piece has undergone X-ray fluorescence analysis to confirm the metallurgical content suggesting its ancient origin and lack of modern trace elements. This piece comes with an authentication report by Sami Fortune, ancient jewellery specialist.
