CHINESE LATE SHANG DYNASTY BRONZE DING VESSEL
Ca. 1675 - 1046 BC A Chinese bronze ding vessel. The two-handled body is supported on a tripod and is decorated with dragon and taotie masks. Ding vessels were an important ritual bronze used for wine and food. The common decorations included various abstract animal forms with taotie being the most mysterious and widely depicted. For similar see: The Ashmoleon Museum, Accession Number EA1956.831. Size: 190mm x 160mm; Weight: 2.23kg Provenance: Kansai private collection, acquired on the Japanese art market before 2000. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
