DAUNIAN PAINTED KRATER WITH OLIVE LEAVES
Ca. 500 - 300 BCA wheel-thrown pottery krater covered in cream slip atop a natural russet-hued buffwear colour. The sizable vessel has a spherical body with a tapered bottom that rests upon a discoid foot. It has a pair of applied handles on either side of the shoulder, and a short vertical rim surrounding the deep basin. Extensive red/brown stripes course across the body and the shoulder is adorned with a register of olive leaves. Size: 173mm x 164mm; Weight: 765gProvenance: Property of a central London Gallery; formerly in a South English estate collection; acquired in the 1990s from Andre de Munter, Brussels, Belgium; previously in an old European collection.
