HELLENISTIC GOLD EARRINGS WITH LARGE DISCOIDAL MEDALLION
Ca. 300 - 100 BCA pair of fine Hellenistic gold earrings with medallion. Attached to the hoop is a large discoid medallion and a cluster of gold pellets on the widened part. Such earrings were initially worn by women of high status who valued their jewellery, one of the few forms of private property that elite women were allowed to own in the Classical Mediterranean. Size: 25-23mm x 20-19mm; Weight: 4gProvenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the German art market in the 1990s.
