IBERIAN TRIANGULAR IRON PUGIO DAGGER
Ca. 500 - 300 BCA rare Iberian triangular iron pugio dagger. An early example of a forged-iron dagger known as a pugio (plural pugiones). The blade exhibits a triangular form below a corseted shoulder with edges that retain their original sharpness, an intimidating pointed tip, and a visible midrib. The rectangular hand guard rests atop the blade shoulder and reinforces the overall structure of the weapon. The slender handle bears a narrow central nodule that facilitates better grip. The double volute-shaped pommel has rounded edges that taper gradually to a bifurcated tip that was perhaps included for aesthetic purposes rather than a functional means. Size: 290mm x 105mm; Weight: 420gProvenance: Private collection, London UK; Ex. European art market. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
