Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BCAn Egyptian hand-carved alabaster vessel with a piriform body and a planar base beneath a corseted neck and flared rim. The soft white hue of the stone is as pleasing to the eye today as it was in ancient Egypt, given how prized a material it was. Such vessels would have held precious scented oils or cosmetics for women to use after bathing, as indicated by scenes in ancient vases depicting them in use.Size: 135mm x 75mm; Weight: 675gProvenance: Private collection, London, UK; Ex.
