ROMAN BRONZE OIL LAMP HALF THEATER MASK
Ca. AD 100 - 300A Roman bronze oil lamp in the form of a half theatre mask. The mask is relatively naturalistic, with the nose elongating into a massive mouth with a spout emerging from the chin. The eyes are large beneath huge arched eyebrows. The incised details of the diadem are marked. The head stands on two polygonal feet. Size: 140mm x 40mm; Weight: 800gProvenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the Belgian art market in the 1990s.
