ROMAN PALE GREEN GLASS BEAKER ON DISCOID FOOT
Ca. AD 100 - 300A Roman green glass beaker composed of a cylindrical and large body. It has a short flat lower part of the body connected to a discoid foot and a flared folded rim. Under the rim, is a moulded decoration in the shape of a relief line. A light iridescence dances across the smooth surface of the vessel, creating rainbow hues that beautifully complement its elegant form. Glass beakers were used in Roman society only by high-level people for their cost; ordinary people used wood dishes and beakers.Size: 100mm x 60mm; Weight: 70gProvenance: Property of a London art gallery, acquired on the US art market; Ex. collection of Rabbi Herbert Friedman, NYC, collected in the 1960s In Israel, to family by decent.
