A SAFAVID FLOWER VASE
Safavid Iran, Ca. 18th century AD . A flower vase of elegant baluster form, with a central flaring neck and four symmetrically placed subsidiary spouts. The body is finely decorated in a lustrous brownish slip over a white ground, featuring a continuous pattern of stylised floral sprays, likely representing carnations or lotus blossoms, interwoven with flowing vines. The upper registers with a solid brown glaze, creating a striking contrast. The foot is unglazed with visible signs of wear consistent with age. Such vases were highly prized during the Safavid period. The influence of Chinese porcelain on Safavid pottery is evident in the elegant shape and the fluidity of the floral motifs.Size: 225mm x 225mm; Weight: 1.13kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
