AN OTTOMAN CALLIGRAPHIC PANEL, SIGNED BY HAFIZ MUHAMMAD AMRU BIN ABAD
Ottoman, Turkey, Ca. Dated 1903, 20th century AD . A calligraphic panel of rectangular form. The composition is executed in bold black ink on an aged tan paper ground, the script forming an elegant interplay of flowing curves and elongated verticals. The inscription, finely rendered in Thuluth script, is accompanied by delicate floral motifs drawn in ink at the margins. A cartouche at the lower left corner bears the artist’s signature: Hafiz Muhammad Amru bin Abad along with the date 1321 AH. Framed within a decorative giltwood frame with floral and scrollwork relief, the artwork presents a harmonious balance between calligraphy and ornamentation, indicative of the refined Ottoman tradition in calligraphic arts. The piece displays natural patination and minor foxing, consistent with age.Size: 380mm x 320mm; Weight: 1.07kgProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
