MAGNIFICENT EGYPTIAN AGATE MACE HEAD
Predynastic, Ca. 3600 - 3100 BC. A mace head of banded agate with a central perforation drilled lengthwise. The surface displays natural inclusions and layered bands in shades of translucent grey, white, and brown. The form is smoothly polished, tapering slightly towards one end. For similar see: Christies's, Live Auction, 10372, Antiquities, Lot. 6 Size: 75mm x 70mm; Weight: 595g Provenance: Private London collection; previously in a 1980s Mayfair Family private collection. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
