PHOENICIAN STATUETTE OF ASTARTE WITH CHILD
Ca. 700 - 500 BC. A terracotta figurine of a standing female figure, possibly goddess Astarte, wearing a tall headdress and long, pleated garment. The figure holds a small child in her arms, pressed close to her chest. Facial features and details of the clothing are rendered in shallow relief, with traces of red pigment preserved in the folds of the robe. The reverse is plain and unmodelled.
