APULIAN RED-FIGURE BELL KRATER WITH WINGED NIKE AND LADY OF FASHION BY THE FOLLOWERS OF THE LECCE PA
Ca. 350 - 325 BC. A red-figure bell krater with a wide flaring rim, twin upturned handles, and a deep body set on a high foot. Side A shows a seated winged Nike, her hair arranged in an elaborate style, dressed in a long chiton with marked folds, and holding a beaded wreath in her raised hand. In front of her stands a woman clad in a voluminous himation. Side B presents a pair of women in procession, walking left, both wrapped in long himatia. A large palmette with volutes is placed under each handle, a meander band encircles the lower register, and a laurel wreath motif is painted beneath the rim.For similar see: Trendall, Red Figured vases of Apulian, Volume II, 1982, Plate 43, n. 1-2Size: 330mm x 320mm; Weight: 2.7kgProvenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the Dutch art market; previously acquired on the Dutch art market; Frederik Van Driel, Maastricht 1993. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.
