Very lively composition in which Neptune appears on a rock armed with a trident next to Amphitrite, his wife. The other marine divinities unfold under her watchful jurisdiction: the Nereid nymphs who bathe in the springs, the old God of the rivers who makes the waters flow from an amphora, the maidservants and other characters. It is a work of very worthy formal elegance of the French school, an expression of the refinement of the Rocaille world. The freshness and dynamic impact of the composition are particularly striking, highlighted in the pose of the characters.
