Leilão Bidspirit | A pair of cuenca tiles
A pair of cuenca tiles with geometric decoration Spain, 16th century Meas: 27.7 X h. 27.5 cm - Two rectangular panels with specular decoration joined to form a single tile moulded with a 16-pointed lazo star that would be repeated on adjacent tiles to form the wall decoration (dado) of a building. The cuenca (or arista) technique is the heir to the cuerda seca method and prevents colours from mixing thanks to the raised edges that prevent colour from invading the neighbouring fields.
