A devotional bronze of Kala Bhairava India, 19th century Meas: h. 23 cm - Bronze lost-wax casting depicting the wrathful manifestation of Lord Shiva, standing on a circular single lotus flower base. The deity is portrayed in his classical iconography with his flaming hair, long skull necklace, weapon in his right hand and skull bowl in his left. His left hand also holds Brahma's head by its hair, which in turn is bound to the dog, an animal that always accompanies this irate appearance of the deity. Shiva's regal attire is completed by the padukas (footwear) and elaborate jewellery.
