Imperial Service Medal, Geo V robed obverse. Named to Andrew Henry Pope. Mounted in a glazed frame with the original bestowal letter signed by the then (1932) US of S at the Home Office, Sir John Anderson, later 1st Viscount Waverley, who was one of the most distinguished British political figures of the twentieth century. Among his many accomplishments was the invention of the famous ‘Anderson’ shelter, used throughout the blitz during the Second World War. See attached Wikipedia profile for full details of his career. Andrew Henry Pope was born on 16 July 1878 in Lambeth and died in 1947. He served for many years as a ‘Lunatic Attendant, Criminal Asylum’ at Broadmoor Hospital and was awarded the ISM in 1932. An intriguing example of this otherwise uninspiring medal.
