Identical copy, with different decoration, appeared in the exhibition "Faianças de Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro", Galveias Palace, Lisbon, October 1985, and is represented in the respective catalogue, pp. 178, nº 417, where he presents the following note: "Representa uma figura que na época foi muito popular em Lisboa onde era conhecido por "Pae Paulino". He belonged to the ranks of the Liberal Army and won a decoration of which he was very proud. His days ended as a "whitewasher of Rossio". He stood out as a great defender of the rights of black people in Portugal. In January 2024, a sculpture of Pai Paulino was inaugurated, in São Domingos Square, in Lisbon, created by Mozambican artist Frank Ntaluma (born 1959).
