Francesco Guicciardini (1483-1540), Italian humanist, historian and statesman, born in Florence; friend of Machiavelli, he was one of the great writers of the Italian Renaissance. The “History of Italy”, his masterpiece, originally published in 1561, describes the period between the death of Lorenzo de Médicis (1482) and that of Pope Clement VII (1534) and is considered a precursor of modern historiography, due to its immense collection of documents and objective analysis of events. The last four books with an independent title page and layout. On the verso of the last page of the first section (f. *6), the xilograph engraved portrait of the author, with a complex Renaissance cartouche. Small wormhole on the inner margin, without affecting the printed part. Otherwise a lightly cropped but very clean copy. Two faded ownerships on the title page: Di Alessandro Avanciotti (old and trimmed) and Prospero Peragallo (in pencil, in the upper margin). Contemporary binding, fully rigid parchment with minor damage to the label.
