First edition (first print run) of the French translation of the first book of Marx's work (the only one published so far), by Maurice Lachâtre, originally published in installments. It includes a cover marked “1re Livraison”, a portrait of Marx and a facsimile of a letter from the author addressed to the editor, with the reply on the verso: “Au Citoyen Karl Marx”. From page 13 onwards, the text is composed in two columns; the last page is the index (table de matières). Copy slightly cropped, with slight browning, due to the quality of the paper. Modern binding, fully red morocco, with ornamental border on the covers and closed gold panels on the spine. Books that made Europe, p. 248.
