Kuntress B'Din HaShemittah By Rabbi Aryeh Leib Rashkes - only edition that came out at the height of the Shmita controversy. Printed by Rabbi Lunz, Jerusalem, 1910 - the copy of Rabbi Meir Soloveitchik with his signature on the title page.
The Kuntress was published in 1910, the third year of the Shemita after the first Shemita controversy. At that time, Rabbi Kook published his opinion in support of the permission of his predecessors to sell the lands of Israel to a gentile. He then published the summary of the halakhic negotiations in the book "Shabbat Ha'aretz". Against this permit came the genius Ridva'z. The book deals with the different opinions on how the shemita behaves at this time, and seeks to negotiate "how to do for the benefit of our brothers who own the colonies."
In addition to the halakhic discussion regarding the shemita, there are various letters from rabbis answering questions sent to them by the people of the colonies and the farmers regarding the laws of shemita. The author discusses the "Heter Mechira" and offers a solution of renting the field instead of selling it.
The Kuntress was composed by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Rashaks (1838-1914), one of the greatest rabbis of Vilna and Jerusalem and author of the book "Rabban - Ibn Leshem Badvir". After immigrating to Jerusalem, he managed the Peri Yitzhak kollel associated with the Etz Chaim yeshiva in the Horba synagogue. The booklet was published, edited by Rabbi Aryeh Leib Gordon (1848-1913), an activist, author, and teacher in Jerusalem. He was ordained a rabbi by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spector. He was one of the founders of the Ohavei Zion Association. His famous book 'Otzar HaTfilot'.
The genius Rabbi Meir Halevi Soloveitchik [1929-2016] was born in Brisk to his great father Maran the Gri'z of Brisk and immigrated with him to Eretz Israel in 1941. He studied in Etz Hayim, and then with Gra'z Meltzer along with Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach Zt'l and the Admor of Rahmstrivka - United States, and also studied with his father. Heads the Brisk Yeshiva in the Achva neighborhood of Jerusalem, with the assistance and encouragement of Rabbi Shach.
