FIRST EDITION, very rare, absent from the D. Manuel, Porbase or USTC catalogue. This is the first edition of the Rule of the Hermits of St. Paul. The work saw other successive editions, one printed by Manuel de Lira, in 1594 (USTC, 345268; BN, RES.141 V.) and another, in 1617 by Pedro Craesbeeck. These are the first printed rules for the Monastery of S. Paulo Primeiro Ermita da Serra d'Ossa, which was completely rebuilt in 1578. Important and valuable.
