FIRST edition of the "first Portuguese 'feminist' book". Dedicated to D. Catarina, the work was composed by Rui Gonçalves, born on the island of S. Miguel, Azores, graduated in Civil and Ecclesiastical Law from the Universities of Lisbon and Coimbra and lawyer at the Court and Casa da Suplicações. The work is structured in two parts, the first, where "some virtues in which women were equal and preceded men" are exposed, and a second where the laws and practices that "legally framed Portuguese women in the middle of the 20th century" are systematized. LOPES] The work was published in a second edition only in 1785 and in 1992 the National Library published a facsimile edition to which it added the dedication and prologue of the seventeenth edition. VERY RARE.
