A rare edition of Pedro Ciruelo's comments on Sacrobosco's Treatise on the Sphere. This is the third edition. Printed for the first time in 1498, then in 1508, the present one, all printed in Paris and a last one in the 16th century printed in Alcalá in 1526. Pedro Ciruelo, an important academic (ca. 1470-1578), published these comments when he he was in Paris, where he taught Mathematics and learned Theology at the University of that city. Ciruelo arrived in Paris in 1492, after 10 years studying astrology at the University of Salamanca. According to Tayra Navarro, there are many points of interest in Ciruelo's comments, in particular the insertion of the fourteen questions about Pierre d'Ailly's Sphere as a complement to his own comments, the additions to various parts of the text, such as the definition of the sphere or number of celestial spheres, the dialogue at the end of the work where he discusses the role of authorities in the discipline and the defense of the rigor of mathematics and astrology when supported by mathematics. [cf. Navarro, p. 53] Very rare and important.
