TROPHEOS Lusitanos. Trophea Sunt Rerum Gestarum Monumenta, et Victoriae Signa. Sulpitius, & Beroaldus in lib. I. Pharsal. Lucani. Em Lisboa: Impresso por Iorge Rodriguez, 1632.

1 v.:il.; 200 mm.

A very rare work, very difficult to collate since the known examples differ, sometimes quite significantly, from each other. The work presents the weapons of the most illustrious personalities and titular families of the time. Due to the difficulty in collation, we prefer to present what appears in this copy below. Text: cover, a signed notebook * of 4 folios with the frontispiece, Licenses, portrait of the author, two sonnets, the first by Manuel Peixoto da Rocha and, on the back, by Pedro Noronha de Andrade. There follows another signed notebook **, also with 4 folios, containing the author's introductory text entitled "A Nobreza do Reyno de Portugal" which occupies two folios, followed by the Latin version of the same text in the following two folios. It also has a notebook signed ¶, with three folios, containing the "Index of the Shields and Arms of the Holders of this Kingdom of Portugal" and two more folios, without signatures, one with an Epigram and a Sonnet that may belong to the notebook * and Finally, another with a text that begins "With these eight letters we show the metaes, & colors of which these shields are placed". In this copy, the Index, the folio with the Epigram and the "colors" are found at the end of the volume, after the engravings. Consulting the digitized copy from the National Library, it appears that it does not have the folio with the Epigram and Sonnet.
