Extraordinary 19th century publication in notebooks or, by modern terms, fascicles, each containing 4 portraits accompanied by their respective biographies. According to Inocêncio (v.7, 140), its publication began in July 1806, ending the first volume with the 12th notebook, which contains the fontispiece, prologue, list of subscribers and a biography of Mateus Fernandes intended for replace the one originally published as it contains gross errors. The work was interrupted from 1807 until 1817, when notebooks 10, 11 and 12 were published. Very rare.
