FIRST edition, very rare, published under the responsibility of Alexandre Herculano who brought to light this precious unpublished by Fr. Luís de Sousa, adding valuable notes. Fr. Luís de Sousa (1555-1632), born Manuel de Sousa Coutinho, was born in Santarém, enlisted in the Order of Malta, having been arrested by the Moors and taken to Algiers where, according to some biographers, he met Miguel Cervantes. Rescued in 1577, he returned to Portugal in 1579, living in Lisbon. After a trip to India at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 17th century, he separated from his wife, D. Madalena de Vilhena, whom he had married in 1584 or 1586, and entered the Convent of S. Domingos de Benfica, professing his profession in 1614, when he changed his name and where, by at his option, he only held the position of Chronicler.
