DICTATOR MATYAS RAKOSI'S PISTOL PERMIT
(1893 - 1971) Hungarian dictator, he called himself 'Stalin's best pupil.' Leader of Hungary from 1947 to 1956. He was aligned with Russian politics during Stalin's leadership. During his rule approx. 350,000 non-communist officials & intellectuals were either arrested or killed. He was known for his self-described 'salami tactics' for removing non-communist opposition by portraying his rivals as fascists or sympathizers. As he put it, he destroyed his opposition in the country by 'cutting them off like slices of salami.' We offer Matyas Rakosi's personal gun permit No. 22 from 1946, signed by LASZLO RAJK (1909 - 1949) Hungarian Minister of Interior and Minister of Foreign Affairs, later accused of being a 'Titoist spy' and executed by Matyas Rakosi in 1949. The permit bears Rakosis photograph, issued for a Browning 7.65mm, 6 pages folded pass, size 5.5 x 9.5 inches, stained and soiled as would be expected; with a b/w candid photograph picturing his wife Fenia Kornilova, and what appears to be Ferenc Nagy to her left, and Zoltan Tildy laying in the grass, creased and chipped, 3.5 x 5 inches; and Matyas Rakosi's personal calling card, with an untranslated handwritten note on the back; an untranslated receipt and a newspaper article in German.
