YPERS INAUGURATION OF THE BELFRY 1934 POSTER
Belgian poster advertising the inauguration of the belfry, or bell tower, in the City of Yper on 29 July 1934, to be attended by the King and Queen of Belgium, artwork by 'Mennens H.G.', Drukk Dumortier Yper, 1934, 39.25 x 29.25 inches. One horizontal fold, minor tears, pinhole marks, loss of top right corner. The famed belfry of Cloth Hall was rebuilt after WWI and houses a 49-bell carillon. The whole complex was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. And, annually a jester tosses stuffed toy cats from the tower during the city's Cat Parade.
