WWII GERMAN FELDGENDARMERIE GORGET AND INSIGNIAS
Grouping of items once belonging to a German Feldgendarm soldier including a green armband, brown cuff title, two shoulder boards, a Nazi eagle insignia patch, and a gorget. The radium paint on the gorget's buttons, insignia, and 'Feldgendarmerie' still glows. The Feldgendarmerie was a military police which worked with other Waffen-SS units during the war. The group was given occupation duties, but was also responsible for several counter-insurgency measures and extermination operations. Towards the end of the war, the group was also allowed to arrest and execute German officers and soldiers for desertion, defeatism, and other duty violations. After the German surrender, the Allies allowed Feldgendarmerie to keep their weapons, guard POWs, and maintain discipline at demobilization centers. Very good.
