The Jewish community Neuwied had a cemetery in Niederbieber since the 17th century. It was also used as a burial place by the Jewish communities in the area. The oldest tombstone ( Mazewa ) is from 1706. The area of the cemetery is around 111 ares . The cemetery hall ( Tahara House ) built in 1908 was devastated in the pogrom night of 1938 and demolished in 1947.
The Niederbieber Jewish cemetery is one of the largest Jewish cemeteries in Rhineland-Palatinate. Today 661 tombstones are still preserved. There are no more tombstones on 294 graves.
