Pre-philately. Maritime Mail. Composite Rates. A letter written in Rio de Janeiro on February 13, 1852, marked by the English agent in Rio, to be sent to Lisbon on the packet ship Teviot, arriving in Lisbon on March 9, 1852, date mark, which preceded the P. Transatlantic marking. The mark LSB-PB2 (R4) was applied, and the packet ship rate from Brazil was 300 reis. As its destination was Valença, it had 70 reis of territorial postage, 15 reis of the Law of April 20, totaling 385 reis to be paid by the recipient. See L. Frazão. Composite Rates. BCFP #476.
