Robert Anthony De Niro (New York, August 17, 1943) is an American actor and film producer with Italian citizenship.
A prolific and versatile performer, he is considered one of the best actors in the history of cinema, especially for the important production between the seventies and the nineties of the twentieth century, in which he had the opportunity to work with renowned directors in hugely successful films. A perfectionist known for the obsessive preparation and documentation of his roles, he has played some of the most famous, troubled and complex characters to appear on the screen.
He has also expanded his career by self-directing on a couple of occasions and in 2002 co-founded the Tribeca Festival.

He has been nominated for an Academy Award nine times, winning it on two occasions: in 1975 for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the young Vito Corleone in The Godfather: Part II and in 1981 for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role as boxer Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. He is famous for his performance in Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976), where he was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
In 2003 he was awarded the Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in recognition of his contribution to the history of cinema and in 2020 the Screen Actor Guild Award for Lifetime Achievement.
