CALCIO - ZIDANE - MAGLIA N. 21 JUVE
Zinédine Yazid Zidane (French pronounced [ˌzineˈdin jaˈzid ziˈdan]), (Marseille, 23 June 1972) is a French football manager and former footballer, who played as a midfielder. World champion in 1998 and European champion in 2000 with the French national team.
Nicknamed Zizou, he is considered one of the best players in the history of football.
Raised in Cannes, he established himself in Bordeaux with which he won a UEFA Intertoto Cup.
In 1996 he was purchased by Juventus, where in five seasons he won two Italian championships, an Italian Super Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, an Intercontinental Cup and a UEFA Intertoto Cup. In the summer of 2001 he moved to Real Madrid for the then record sum of 150 billion lire, contributing to the victory of a Spanish championship and two Spanish Super Cups as well as a UEFA Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup and an Intercontinental Cup. At the end of the 2005-2006 season he announced his retirement from playing football.
With the French national team he participated in three world championships (France 1998, South Korea-Japan 2002 and Germany 2006) and three European championships (England 1996, Belgium-Netherlands 2000 and Portugal 2004), winning as protagonist and number dix of his the 1998 world championship and the 2000 continental one. With the Les Bleus shirt he made a total of 108 appearances and 31 goals. On an individual level he won one edition of the Ballon d'Or (1998) and three of the FIFA World Player of the Year (1998, 2000, 2003), a record shared with Ronaldo. He occupies the 28th position in the special ranking of the best footballers of the 20th century published by World Soccer magazine and the same magazine also included him in the lineup of the eleven best players in the history of football.
FIFA also placed him in third place in the ranking of the best number tens in history[8][9] while in March 2004, Pelé also included him in the FIFA 100, the list of the 125 best living footballers, drawn up on the occasion of the Centenary of FIFA.
The BBC called him the best European player in the entire history of football and in 2009 he was included in the Ideal Team of the Decade by the British periodical Sun.
As coach of Real Madrid, he won three UEFA Champions Leagues, two Spanish championships (2016-2017 and 2019-2020), two UEFA Super Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and two Club World Cups. With the exception of the naturalized Helenio Herrera, Zidane was the first French coach to win the Champions League. He is, with Fabio Capello and Marcello Lippi, the only coach to have reached three consecutive Champions League finals, but the only one to have won them all, thus becoming the first coach to win three consecutive editions of Europe's top club competition.
Since 2001 he has been ambassador to the United Nations (UN).
In Marseille, his hometown, he founded a football school to help the poorest children.
