19TH CENTURY AFRICAN AXE, COLLECTION OF EDWARD FREY
A fine African axe likely from the Tsonga or Venda regions of Southern Africa. The shaft is carved as bird’s head and well preserved. The blade is well forged and quite large with good chopping blow to it. A fine old African axe of very good age and quality. Provenance: Collection of Edward Frey (1920-2003) Miami, Florida. Mr. Frey was a known collector and researcher of oriental arms and author of the book “The Kris Mystic Weapon of the Malay World.”
Dimensions : Overall length: 29 in. (74 cm.)
Condition : Very good overall, with small chips at blade edge.
