METCHNIKOFF ÉLIE: (1845-1916) Also known as Ilya Mechnikov. Russian Zoologist. Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1908. Metchnikoff is best known for his pioneering works in immunology, widely regarded as the ''father of natural immunity''. A very good A.L.S., `Elie Metchnikoff´, one page, to a French carte pneumatique, Paris, 17th February 1902, to Elie Faure, in French. Metchnikoff sends an urgent message, saying `The fragment that you brought yesterday is an undisputable tubular epithelioma. This outcome is heartbreaking. We can´t wait any longer to do all we can to save our poor friend.´ further explaining that he was working the day before at the library of the Museum. Bearing to the verso several ink postmarks. Very small areas of paper loss to the left corners as a result of the letter opening but not affecting the text. Overall minor age wear with few small stains.
